ranked American
junior. In 2019, he
became the young-
est ever Southern California state champi-
on, was co-champion of the (now) Dewain
Barber National Tournament of Middle
School State Champions, and won the
Southern California Open. In 2023 he won
a CJA honorable mention for “Best Story of
the Year.” After a long wait, his Internation-
al Master title has been approved by FIDE!

and the
winner of the 2023 “Fea-
ture of the Year” award from the Chess
Journalists of America. The writing of this
article has influenced him to try more

nian-American woman
grandmaster. After moving
to the United States in 2001, she has been
a regular participant in U.S. Women’s

grader at Hunter Col-
lege High School in New
York, NY. The winner of
multiple New York scholastic titles, he
is a newly minted FIDE master. He is one
of the co-founders of

magazine.
