Using External Boolean Modules
Task:
Create a new External Boolean Module inside of Designer and link the module to a
Control object and status object inside of Vista to explore its behavior.
Condition:
15 minutes (time limit for student to complete lab)

Steps:
1. Open the
ION Reference
document and find the External Boolean Module
section.
2. Open up the Designer application. Then open the
VIP
node by clicking
File >
Open
and selecting the
VIP.DEFAULT
node from the list of available nodes.
3. Open or create the Grouping Window inside of the VIP called
External Modules.
4. Find the
External Boolean Module
inside of the designer toolbox by matching
the picture inside of the ION Reference document to the corresponding picture
inside of the Designer Toolbox. Click and drag a new module onto the screen.
5. Modify the setup registers of the module and change the module label to say
Boolean Module
and the output label to say
Boolean Value.
6.
Send and save
the changes made.
7. Open up Vista and navigate to the
External Modules
screen. Link both a
Status Object
and a
Control Object
to this External Boolean module that was
just created inside of the VIP.
8. Save the modified Vista Screen.

1. What is different about the control object linked to an External Boolean Module
vs one linked to an External Numeric Module?
2. What is the initial State of the module?
3. Why was a status object used to display the output of this module and not a
Numeric object? Can you link this module to a numeric object?
4. Can you change the value of the External Boolean Module inside of Designer?
5. What happens if you copy and paste the External Boolean Module in Designer
after changing the modules initial state?
6. Can you have two modules with the same name?
7. What are some uses for this module?
