elcome to the second issue of
Old Bones!
I must admit, even I am
slightly surprised at how fast this issue has come together. It makes
me con dent that the rules I presented in Issue 1 are working. Giving
myself the freedom to follow where any little creative whim has taken me has
allowed me to produce more fun bits of gaming goodness than I expected! For the
rst time in my writing life, I have had to be very conscious about not going over
the word limit, which is a fun limitation, and more conducive to quality creativity
than striving to hit a word count!
is issue contains two articles for
Frostgrave
players. e rst presents ‘meta-
magic’ spells – that is, spells that a ect other spells. I got this idea after reading the
5th Edition of the classic role-playing game,
Ars Magica.
e second article is about
‘Books of Illusionary Form’, which is part of my desire to get even more magic
books into the game and to bring interesting modi cations to existing spells. is
one modi es the Illusionary Soldier spell, but I suspect I’ll look at others in the
future.
About a month ago, my wife and I watched the 1999 gothic horror lm
Sleepy
Hollow
by Tim Burton. at guy would be on the short list to direct a
e Silver
Bayonet
movie. Inspired by the lm, I wrote a solo scenario where the silver bayonet
unit must face a headless horseman!
Sometimes inspiration comes from without, other times it comes from
within. For a while now, I’ve wanted to write a
Rangers of Shadow Deep
scenario
where a single player used only his or her ranger. It didn’t t well into any of the
larger works I’ve been designing, and it would be too short to release on its own.
ankfully,
Old Bones
gave me the perfect place to put it. ‘A Dangerous Message’ is
a mini-scenario that can be slotted in after any larger mission.
Finally, it occurred to me that I never included a really big spider in
Oathmark.
I mean, sure, the game has giant spiders, but I mean
really
big. So, I stated one up,
and then I gured I might as well write a scenario to go with it. Is your army ready
for the ‘Web of Lies’?
ere are a couple other bits and pieces in the issue, but I’ll leave you to
discover them. Once again, I make no promises on when or if we’ll see Issue 3,
but I’m still feeling enthusiastic about the project. anks to everyone who has
