‘in spe’, bears the outfit of a Jesuit in China, after the model of Nicolas Trigault. If Michael
Rupprecht is right, when he recognizes on the portrait the traces of a punch (ibid., pp. 139
– 140), this may be brought in relation with an incident in Rostock, in Nov. 1606 or April
