Her melancholic songs are often categorized in the MPB genre. She began her professional career in 1984 and released her first studio album in 1990. Recently participated in an album for children, Adriana Partimpim (2004), which she has had great success with in shows; winning the Latin Grammy for best album for children. Calcanhoto's compositions deal with varied styles: samba, bossa nova, rock, pop, ballads. Among the features of repertoire, there is a remake of the old MPB and successes of different arrangements.
