Using 64-bit wide flash with MPE60x parts
Q.
I am using a MPE60X device which does not have floating point enabled. Can I use a MPC106
with a 64b wide Flash?
A.
No. Since the flash must be written to with 'full' bus width transactions the only way to accom-
plish this with the PowerPC architecture is to perform a 'stfd' (store floating point double instruc-
tion). On the MPE devices the floating point unit is disabled. Therefore, you would not be able to
perform the 64b wide write. The solution to this problem is to use a regular MPC device.
