The animals and populace of Warberley Village face death descending �½om the night sky - can you find the solution? And what happens aſter you do?
THE CHURCH AND THE CROW
Folkar
is the God of Apples, Cider and
Patience. His Church has been abandoned for
at least 300 years. The houses are just a few
low stone walls, but the church was built to
last. The roof is full of holes, but the walls
and tower remain structurally sound.
Outside the Church:
Overgrown gravestones,
wild fruit trees full of insects.
Inside the Church:
The altar has a small
amount of wealth tucked beneath it in case
the village was ever in need. A holy symbol of
Folkar on top may be of interest to a collector,
as will a mosaic on the floor if it can be
carefully removed and transported safely.
VAGUE RUMOURS
1. “I saw a dark shape against the moon, big as a horse
it was! Except with wings, which horses don’t have.”
2. A keening cry has been heard across the wood at
night. Unbeknown to most, this is a mating call.
3. Two of Farmer Grasswicks’ prize ewes went
missing from a sturdy stone-walled enclosure. She
suspects thieves.

ESCALATING INCIDENTS
A panicking flock of sheep runs through a field
near the village, the red blood of a recent
former member sprayed across the white wool
of its cohorts.
A second dark, winged creature is seen briefly
above the woodland canopy.
The remains of a peddler and his donkey lie on
the road. Goods lie undisturbed, but the bodies
are gone.
A child goes missing, with their friends saying a
giant bird swept out of the sky and carried them
off. Within 48 hours, the injured child will be
fed to the newly hatched offspring, and soon
after that the new family of six will descend
upon the village.

The tower stairs have all rotted away, but the
bronze bells at the top and the iron chain to
ring them are intact. Too much force will send

them crashing through the rotting ceiling to

The Terror Crow
sleeps during the middle of
the day, but is alert from dusk till dawn. It
will swoop on any creature it notices within
the ruined village and graveyard, intending to
eat them or drive them from its territory. It
hunts at midnight, for 2-3 hours. Its nest is
supported by the stone of the tower, and may
contain up to 5 eggs. It would be difficult to
hatch and train these birds as companions or
mounts, but not impossible.
CONCERNED CITIZENS
1.The Warberley Farmers Union.
An attack on
one is an attack on all. Protocol dictates that
they obtain three quotes before contracting a
hunter.
2. Road Warden Harris.
Knows the roads far
better than the forest, and is concerned that
traders will avoid the village.
3. Wizard/Astronomer Guelemain.
Seeks the
eyes of a giant bird for a potion that will greatly
improve vision. Any giant bird will do, but this
one is convenient.
FINDING THE CHURCH OF FOLKAR

indicate that a creature of this size could
not be supported by the slim elm trees in
the area.

are no cliffs or quarries nearby,
but there was a church to Folkar, built in
a long abandoned village some centuries
ago, now overgrown by the woods.
•The
crow’s direction of travel may be
observed on a clear night. This is much
easier from a vantage point like
Guelmain’s tower.
•Close
to the church and the surrounding
ruined village, the trees will change from
elm to overgrown apple and pear trees
that have long since outgrown their
original neat orchards.
•The
village was known as Pipwick, but
few remember that name today. The
stream feeding the village dried up, but
has now returned - resettlement is
possible.
Pulling down the tower will deprive it of a
nesting site and force it to move elsewhere, as
will a prodigious quantity of poisoned meat.
The latter is challenging, as a carrion feeder
has a strong constitution.
POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES
1.Large, annoying vermin run rampant
in
the woods in the absence of an apex predator.
2. The Church must be re-consecrated
due to
the spilling of blood, and crops fail in the
village until this happens. Unfortunately, the
last priest died around 200 years ago.
3. Guelemain’s potion transforms them
into
a half-human, half-crow creature,(with
excellent eyesight), but only when in the
presence of raw or rotting meat.
