You all spent many years working together as a hunter crew. But
bounty hunting is a complicated profession and you’ve gradually
drifted apart.
Even the most successful crews were pushed out by cheap,
efficient drones, sophisticated surveillance systems and clients
who no longer valued a personal touch.
Now, one of you has realised there’s still money to be made
hosting space cruises for wealthy individuals, thrill seekers, or
other passengers with their own agenda.
Nobody has made a drone that can pilot a 200-tonne pleasure
yacht through a neon asteroid field, serving blue cocktails to
guests while fending off whatever scavengers exist on the fringes
of space.
Even the mega-corporations who monopolise commercial space
tend to baulk at the cost of losing civilian passengers or an
expensive ship along the more treacherous routes.
They’re happy to leave the risk to private contractors.
This is where you fit in.

A Complicated Profession
is a collaborative
storytelling TTRPG. You’ll create your crew of
former bounty hunters, then start a new career
hosting intergalactic cruises.
This is a GM-less game for 3 to 5 players, intended
to be played over 1 or 2 sessions of 3 to 4 hours.

Pass shared sheets around clockwise. Players each
fill in one gap in the description until it’s complete,
then someone reads out the description.
Character sheets are filled out solo.
The descriptions are read out during the
SPECIAL EVENT
:
A NEW LIFE.

Whoever holds the
CONTRACT SHEET
takes the first
turn during a
CONTRACT.
They
Create A Contract
and fill out the notes on the
CONTRACT SHEET.
The next three players, going clockwise, take turns
choosing and playing a
MAIN EVENT.
The next player
plays the
SPECIAL EVENT:
WELCOME HOME.
The player holding the
CONTRACT SHEET
passes it to
the next player, going clockwise, before starting a
new
CONTRACT.

are played to advance your story. Follow the
steps and prompts on each
EVENT
until it’s resolved.
MAIN EVENTS
are chosen by players during a
contract.
SPECIAL EVENTS
happen at specific times.

When it’s a player’s turn, they become the
LEAD PLAYER.
If possible, they should read out
the
EVENT
and help to direct any other players
who have an opportunity to contribute.
During a
MAIN EVENT
, try to ensure each player
gets a chance to speak and offer solutions when
prompted. Aim to build on each others’ stories -
or at least explain what your character is doing
during a scene.
Grassk suggests a plan to lure
some dangerous creatures with a
USEFUL
ITEM
- a crate of expired ready meals.
Baron builds on this story by helping to set
up the trap. Vole uses their ‘Right Place,
Right Time’
HUNTER EXPERIENCE
to appear
in the security room, push a button and
eject the creatures into space.
