Important exerpts from Shri Mataji’s talks
Meditation
To develop, one must meditate. The important thing is to meditate every day, every day, every day!
You may not eat your food one day, you may not sleep one day, you may not go to your office one day. You may not do anything that you are doing every day. But you must meditate every day, that is an important point.
Bombay 1988
You don’t have to spend too much time on meditation, but whatever time you do spend, whatever you gain, has to be visible outside. How you radiate and how you give it to others, that is the quality of the saints you have to be.
27 July 82
Meditation is part and parcel ofour lives. In the same way that human beings have to breathe, you have to meditate. If you do not meditate, you can never grow. You have to meditate. Unless and until you meditate you can never grow, you will remain the same. The growth of a personality takes place only when you meditate and become deeper. Superficiality is not going to help. This is why one has to meditate.

We should not criticise or judge others
Change your attitudes, try to see good in others. Try to see good in them….what you owe them, how to get along with them. Why not see the good in them?
28 July 85
When judging others, one has to know that one should judge oneself first of all. Because with what are you judging? With your ego and superego. I have seen that it is a very common failing, which should not be there any more. You people are not to see the faults of each other, but the good points of everyone.
So best is to judge a person through vibrations. Judge everything through vibrations, not through your own understanding or superficial methods of judging others. Now also there are so many other conditionings we have
got by which we judge others. These conditionings can bias our judgement. So the best way is to see the vibrations. Through vibrations you will have the real knowledge about what is happening.
16 May 87
You must not pass sarcastic remarks about each other. Somebody’s like this, somebody’s like that! I don’t like it at all, passing remarks about anybody. All of you must respect each other. If a person is very conceited or selfish, it will stand out. It will get corrected. So you don’t need to pass remarks. Even in public sometimes I hear it, it is very bad.
24 March 81
Another bad habit is to gossip, about this person, criticise that person. It is a very bad habit. I never pay heed to anyone who gossips and I don’t like a person who gossips, cheaply, frivolously talking about others.
04 May 86
So that is one thing that you have to be very careful about. If somebody is trying to criticise, you just keep quiet. This silence has to become established…To discuss somebody, to discuss about other’s business, we have no business. Do we discuss the character of one hand to the other hand?

On how to stop being egotistical
You see you should never fight the ego. If you try to fight it, it will sit more on your head. That is not the way to fight it. If you fight your ego ‘oh I am going to box you’ then it will grow more, you see. The more you box it, the more it will grow. Never fight your ego, the only way is to see it!
Your Attention is very important, it is now enlightened. Whatever you see, it comes to its right size. If it’s overgrown, just watch your ego. The best thing is to watch yourself in the mirror and say, ‘Mr Ego, how do you do?’. Then it will come down. But do not fight it, just watch it. All kinds of ego can be there. If you are over educated, you are egotistical. If you are uneducated, you are egotistical because you must show that you are something. All sorts of ego are there.

Confidence should not be confused with ego. Confidence is complete wisdom, it is complete dharma, it is complete love, complete beauty and it is complete God.

Love and compassion
It is that trust in your loving heart that is going to do it. Love gives all the sophistication, the fragrance and
the breeding which is required. Not talking of love, but really loving is the way.
21 May 84
Be motherly. So this compassion has to be there and unless and until you develop that compassionate fatherly or motherly feeling for others…..you have to really mother others and have that feeling of compassion and love for others. You don’t have to think about your own comfort, you don’t have to think about your advantages. But you do have to think more what you can do to make others comfortable, than to see what will make you comfortable.Whatever compassion, love I have given you, you must store within you and give that back to others. Otherwise you will be finished, stagnated. There has to be outflow.
Love is a source of energy that makes things grow in a living manner. Love does not mean that you hug somebody. It is a living energy that understands, that makes you.
When you jump into the ocean of love there is nothing to be done. It is just to be enjoyed, every wave of it, every hue of it, every touch of it. That is what one has to learn by reasoning, that Sahaja Yoga is love.
On rituals
But still you see, in every religion there are so many rituals going on….What is there to be serious? What is there to be ritualistic? You cannot bind God in any rituals. That’s why He came on this earth – to tell you that you should not try to bind yourself by rituals which are nonsensical.

Detachment
Try to detach yourself. Try to control….temper, lust, greed, everything. Eat less, not like gluttonous people. You see, once in a while on a day of a big banquet, you eat more. But you cannot eat everytime like that, it’s not a sign of a Sahaja Yogi. Try to control. Try to control your speech; whether you express temper in your speech or you express your compassion or you are artificially compassionate.
Freedom in its subtlest form is complete egolessness, no angularities, complete hollowness just like the flute; so that the melody of God can be played well – that’s complete freedom.
Worrying
So just try and keep your aim clear cut. You must try to understand what is your aim in life as Sahaja Yogis. Now you are changed people. You are no more people who have to deal with possessions or worry about them, about mundane things, about your livelihoods. You are no more people who have to worry too much about your health and things or your personal lives.
Moving away from the mental trap
This mental attachment is to be really attacked. Becoming is seeing, it is experiencing. Like if I have to come to this place, I must come and see it. If I only have thoughts and mental ideas about it, mental pictures, it is no good. It is not mine, it is not the truth. So when you become aware, actually what happens is that you see it yourselves. So let us ‘see’. Get out of that mental conception that you already know about something. You do not know, because what you know is just mental. It should become a part and parcel of your being.
27 May 85
Rationality can take one anywhere, can justify anything as it is not absolute. So one has to go beyond rationality, develop higher senses of Divinity by which one can understand the real problems and the actual solution of these problems.
By thinking you get your ego. There is no wisdom with a great ego. Mr Ego doesn’t want you to be happy or relaxed, but always gives you ideas to do this or that and the other until you are finished. There’s no advantage to that.
Spirit is the most precious thing that we have within ourselves. The preciousness of your Spirit is immeasurable. Thinking is just an empty process of the mind.
On Joy
The joy is not that you laugh aloud, the joy is not that you are always smiling. No. It is the stillness, the quietude within yourself, the peace of your being, of your Spirit.

Vishuddhi Chakra
Physical counterpart: Cervical Plexus (thyroid)
Looks after: Neck, arms, face, tongue, mouth, nose, teeth
Qualities: Diplomacy, collectivity, witness power, fun, self respect, brother/sister relationship.
No of Petals: Sixteen (16)
Day: Saturday Colour: Blue/Grey Element: Ether
Gem: Sapphire Symbol: Timewheel
The Vishuddhi Chakra represents the point at which mankind finally moved away from the animal kingdom and lifted its head up to the stars. This transition to Homo Erectus was pivotal in the formation of society and civilisation, and hence it is fitting that the Vishuddhi should have such a powerful influence on all aspects of communication and community.
Quality
Detachment and a sense of perspective are important features of the Vishuddhi Chakra. The ability to determine what is really important in our lives, and realise that problems are usually simply a creation of our own conditionings and fears. As a result we become stronger and more able to handle things which at first glance appear to be traumatic but in fact are nothing more than events we must pass through on our way through life.
Existence is about evolution through challenge, whether it be the law of the jungle or the ways of the world .After our Realisation we learn how to become comfortable with this fact.
The Vishuddhi also embodies those qualities which govern our relationship with others. Lack of respect for others and for ourselves (i.e. guilt) are important and can hinder our progress towards the Spirit. Through our meditation we learn to stop feeling guilty, face up to our weaknesses and do something about them. The affirmation for the left Vishuddhi is ‘I am not guilty’.
It is this centre also which governs our collectivity, how we relate to one another and to the Universe as a whole. As we progress in our meditations we find that we become more compassionate towards others and more able to give where giving is due. The Hamsa Chakra, which is also a part of the Vishuddhi, provides us with that all important sense of discrimination and discretion which let us determine the right course of action in our everyday lives.
Gross Physical Aspect
This Chakra looks after the throat, mouth, face, teeth and so on. In order to avoid problems with this Chakra we should take proper care of our teeth, avoid pollutants such as tobacco which can damage the throat and generally take precautions in extreme climates. We should try and respect everything we do to communicate with others, talk sweetly, avoid ugly gestures and grimaces and try to demonstrate our open heart through our communication. The Vishuddhi Chakra is also very important for our awareness of Vibrations, as the nerves which register the ‘cool breeze’ pass through this centre.
Causes of problems with the Vishuddhi Chakra
Left Side: Guilt, immorality, foul speech, sarcasm, lack of self respect.
Right Side: Disrespect for others, aggression, domination
Centre: Lack of detachment or collectivity.
Looking after the Vishuddhi
A weak Vishuddhi may show up as : excessive colds or sore throats, coughing or symptoms with the ears or nose. If we feel guilty we can experience sore or tense shoulders and find ourselves talking harshly for no reason.
To help clear any problems of this Chakra we can:
Use the elements.
Candle treatment around the left and centre throat area.
Nasal breathing exercises (Bastrika – Hatha Yoga)
Affirmations
Mother, please make me part and parcel of the whole
Mother, I am not guilty of anything at all (for the left side).
General Advice
Always protect the throat against the cold weather with a scarf or similar.
Use a salt water gargle for sore throats if necessary.
Brush the teeth regularly.
Drops of oil in the ears or throat, or taking honey, can also help problems.
Do not speak sarcastically or harshly to others. Also if possible avoid arguments, or even excessive conversation.
Massage your neck and shoulders with any vitamin enriched oil if there is pain.
