s usual the ebb and flow of topical and
‘essential’ material has made a pig’s ear of
the editorial schedule and once again what
we suggested we might run with last month has
been chopped and changed and we have ended
up with something broadly similar but different
enough to warrant comment. Please note – the
‘Coming Next Month’ page in each issue should
be regarded as advisory. In the interests of a
balanced content we are inevitably going to end
up changing something so do please bear that in
mind. That said, once a piece has made it onto the
shortlist it rarely gets bumped more than once so
we will look forward to presenting Peter
Marshall’s H-34 next month instead …
This month I have been particularly inspired by
Des Brennan’s piece on the Sentinel R.1, a type
that seems to have come and gone from the RAF
without any great fanfare, despite thirteen years
fairly solid service. Our
Scaled Up
piece on the
type ticks all the boxes for me in terms of a
modeller’s reference article, and as ever Des has
provided a kitography that is as comprehensive as
it is possible to get with a subject so woefully
neglected. I am now, of course, in pursuit of a
1/144 kit and look forward to half finishing it and
abandoning it on the shelf of shame (actually I
have several) in due course.
Elsewhere I am grateful to my old oppo Mr Neil
Robinson, who has dusted off some vintage work
and written up some useful notes on Falklands
War colours and markings. Readers may have
noticed that
SAM
does not tend to go overboard
on anniversaries, as it usually means repeating
material that has become familiar over the years,
but given the breadth of the author’s knowledge
and the popularity of this particular subject then
it seemed appropriate to include some coverage
in this month’s issue.
And we have another Ukrainian kit on the
cover too. Mars Models have some unique types
in their catalogue, as do all of those companies
currently striving to keep trading despite the
ongoing conflict, so do check out their
catalogues, make a purchase, and help to
support one of the most eclectic and interesting
sections of the industry.
