Background
Characters are all colleagues in an office. They
are all women. They are going to attend a
business meeting where something boring (but
fraught with power dynamics) will be discussed.
There will be cake.
A few minutes after everyone else has started the
meeting, the player who drew the cake-bringer
card arrives, interrupts whatever is happening,
and presents the cake.
Once the cake is presented, take a few moments
to comment upon its appearance. If you feel so
moved, take a photograph of the cake with your
phone, or a photograph of your co-workers
gathered around the cake.
Eat the cake or don’t, as dictated by your Cake
card.
If you eat cake, leave the room when you are
finished. You are headed to the ladies’ room to
wash your hands. Be back in a jif!
When only non-eaters remain, the game ends.
Call back the cake-eaters.
Tell the players (except the player who drew the
cake-bringer card, who remains behind with
the cake) that they can arrive and file into the
conference room in character, in any order. The
game begins once the first person enters the
conference room.

Budget an hour, but
it might be quicker.
Setup
Obtain a cake and cake-eating supplies.
Print out the agenda, Cake cards and Power
Level cards. Leave the cake and cards outside
the play space.
Intensity
Supplies:
Room with table
and chairs, printout
of boring business
agenda, Cake and
Power Level cards,
plates, cutlery, one
kitchen knife, and
average sheet cake.
Arrange the play space as an office conference
room, or use an office conference room. Put
the agenda and cake-eating supplies in the play
space.
Each character has two attributes: her power
level within the office, and the way she interacts
with cake. Create characters by randomly
drawing one card from the set marked with a
calendar, one card marked with the cake icon.
Be aware: not all of the cards are equally
important. If you are playing with four people,
use only the cards with icons on their faces. If
you are playing with more than four people, add
additional cards to each of the decks as needed.
Randomly assign every player a card indicating
their character’s power level within the office
(calendar icon) and another detailing their
interaction with cake (cake icon). The four cards
of each type with icons on the face are crucial
to the game - include others as more players are
added.
Debrief
Anyone who wants cake can eat during the
debrief.
Discuss how the game made you feel.
Chat about women’s social and peer pressure;
worst jobs you have had; corporate morale
events you have attended or hosted.

immediately when the game starts.
Card Text: Interaction Cards
Required:
You will present the cake, but refuse to eat
any of it. Begin the game outside the play space
and enter after a few minutes. Do not cut or
distribute the cake.
