DEAD END: The LIVING DEAD CAMPAIGN
Logline:
Weeks have passed with relative ease. And, despite marked improvements to their quality of
life, the members of the Starlite survivor community are about to discover a traitor in their midst.
Characters
Alyssa Carver:
An adorable, cherubic girl of eight; playfully child-like, affectionate; an ineffable steely
pragmatism beyond her years lies behind her bright eyes.
Connella Addison:
Feisty, outspoken, pregnant 20-something escaped inmate.
Cyrus Whitlock:
Bullish strong build, bald. A capable woodsman and avid hunter.
Deshaun Walker:
Horace’s eight-year-old son, and Alyssa Carver’s best friend.
Jacob Floyd:
Middle-aged high school football coach. Gruff, direct; with no social filter.
Sylvia Gomez:
Swarthy, attractive. A competent young Hispanic woman in her early 20s.
Warden Kent:
Middle-aged woman with a gravelly tone, face creased with deep wrinkles; otherwise
fastidious.

The drive-in movie theater, with its sizable three-story screen and sprawling dirt parking lot, is home
to twenty or so survivors. It’s quickly growing into a legitimate community with areas for farming and
a field hospital. Its chain link fence perimeter, covered in rusting corrugated panels, boasts row upon
row of wood spike barricades to keep out the dead.
Synopsis
Weeks have passed with relative ease. Given a moment to breathe, the community takes the opportunity
to grow and expand. To celebrate, The Starlite hosts its first drive-in movie night! The festivities are
overshadowed by the revelation of a traitor in their ranks. What’s worse, they are acting on behalf of
the Warret Correctional Institute for Women.
Act One
Connella Addison and her fellow inmates are heavily featured in this
adventure. In the interest of
context, it is written with the presumption that Connella returned
with the survivors at the end of
Series Arc 2x05—Run, Rabbit Run. If this is not true in your version
of the campaign, substitute
one of the escaped female inmates wherever she is mentioned.
Additionally, substitute Connella for Warden Kent as the “voice
on the radio” if she did not
return to the Starlite.
If the survivors persuaded the group of children from Series Arc
S2x07—Hide and Seek to
return with them, Alyssa and Deshaun have made fast friends with
them.

CYRUS has joined the Starlite community permanently. With his help, the survivors have managed to
build a shallow well, an irrigation system, a chicken coop, a small pen for a few goats, and even a solar
array with deep-cycle batteries to power the FM transmitter and movie projector. The most impressive
addition just may be a six-foot by six-foot moat with a crude but functional drawbridge, creating an
enclosed airlock-style entrance.

Things have been relatively quiet lately. Thanks to Cyrus’ ingenuity, and substantial elbow grease on your
part, the Starlite is finally starting to become a sustainable community of survivors. Though the improvements
won’t eliminate scavenging runs altogether, they will make them far less necessary and frequent. Hell, they
might just make it through winter.
As you go about your daily routine, you spot Coach Floyd in a loose huddle with Cyrus and Sylvia
beside the concession stand patio. They waive you over and Sylvia greets you with an enthusiastic smile.
Then she launches into her plan to host a movie night to celebrate their recent achievements—and raise
morale, of course. You aren’t quite sure how, but she wrangles each of you into taking on her honey-do list of
preparations for the “big night.”
A successful Notice roll draws a character’s eye to Alyssa and Deshaun descending the u-shaped
stairs from the projection booth.
If questioned, the children insist they are playing “hide and go seek”. It is an obvious lie.
Anyone who decides to investigate further encounters CONNELLA exiting the projection booth.
Startled, she offers an excuse—something about looking for paper clips to turn into bobby pins. Then,
she awkwardly pushes past the survivors and walks away.
If the characters choose to inspect the projection booth, which doubles as Cyrus’ quarters, nothing
appears to be missing or disturbed. Even the periodic squawk of static from the new ham radio setup
on the desk in the corner is “par for the course.”
Act Two
Read aloud or paraphrase the following:
Movie night is a raging success! Of the three films found in the projection booth, Sylvia chose The Wizard
of Oz to be the first of the night. According to her logic, it was the most family-friendly. There were concerns
about the noise blaring from the FM radio of Cyrus’ open truck idling on the field. Coach Floyd quickly
squashed them by doubling the armed patrol atop the drive-in’s three-story movie screen.
IN THE PROJECTION BOOTH Alyssa and Deshaun are at play. The two slipped away at the start of
the third act, just as Dorthy and her companions discover the true identity of the Great and Powerful
Oz. What neither of them realizes is Cyrus will be arriving in a few minutes to load the next film into
the projector.

As Dorthy clicks her heels together and wakes up in her bed in Kansas, Cyrus approaches and requests
your help setting up the next film. As you climb the steps to the projection booth you detect voices. You step
inside to find both children staring back at you in shock and Alyssa holding the ham radio’s push-to-talk mic
in her hand.
How the player characters respond is up to them. Cyrus isn’t able to raise anyone on the radio or
pinpoint the broadcast’s location. What’s more, Alyssa and Deshaun have been sworn to secrecy. The
only thing they are willing to say is they were talking to a “nice lady.”
It is not long before SYLVIA enters the room to check on Cyrus. When she learns what has transpired,
she sends the children on their way with a smile and tells them to let everyone know the next movie
will start in just a few more minutes.
Once they are out of earshot, she suggests they carry on with movie night and address the issue with
Coach Floyd in the morning. She argues there is no need to cause panic. With that, she pivots on her
heels and proclaims, “The show must go on” as she exits the room.
Act Three
The rest of the adventure focuses on the survivors’ attempt to discover with whom Alyssa and Deshaun
were speaking on the radio. Coach Floyd asks the survivors to poke around and see what they can find
out without raising suspicion.
Armed with the information the characters uncover, Coach Floyd devises a trap to catch Connella
red-handed. He asks the survivors to follow Cyrus around the drive-in, pretending to assess the
quality of the recent additions and upgrades while Sylvia keeps Alyssa and Deshaun occupied.
